Doing some reviews lately and now I think I should do Halo. Finished it a while ago. Great game.
In the FPS genre, there is your arcade fast paced games like Quake and Unreal, and then there your realistic war shooters like Battlefield and Call of Duty. Where Halo is, it is in the fast paced games. Last of it’s kind. Unreal Tournament 3 was a flop and the last Quake game flow under the radar. I like games like Unreal, got all the Unreal games. It is a fun game. I also like Halo. Fun story. Played the game on Easy because I am a noob.
SPOILERS
To the review. I bought the game off Xbox Marketplace Games on Demand. Only $15 and only problem I had was some laggy areas. I don’t know if it was the system or game but wont affect my review. You are this super solider, Master Chief. You get thawed and ready to be unleashed on the Covenant, a group of aliens wanting to kill humans.
The ship jumps out of hyperspace to a ring like planet. This is where Halo comes from. These planets were used to destroy all intelligent life in the galaxies. Later on that. The ship gets attack and you have to get out of the ship. You land on the planet and need to find the item the Covenant are looking for before they do.
About half way through, another alien is unleashed. It is called the Flood and it is an unstoppable thing that mutates creatures. You end up meeting a robot AI that wants to activate the Halo and you think it is all going to be ok. The Flood become too out of control and must be released and the Halo is the key to destroying the Flood.
Once you get about to activate the Halo, your AI ally stops it and tells you the truth. The alien robot AI wanted to end all life to stop the flood, the only way. You end up having to find the ship you came to the planet that ended up crashing. You need to overload the reactor and blow the Halo to stop the flood. Because you are a bad ass you do it and a sweet cut scene happens. If don’t on legendary, you get a funny extra.
SPOILERS END
End of the story which I think is a blast. This game is really different from Halo 3: ODST. What I don’t like is the vehicles. Most games have the turning and movement on one stick. Halo does it on 2. Left and right on the right stick and back and forth on the left. Kind of annoying and broken. Was hoping they fixed it in a new Halo.
Guns in this game are pretty cool and very unique for each race. There is the main battle rifle. Very balanced. The Covenant have a one handed plasma machine gun. In later games, you can dual wield it, not in ODST. Instead of ammo, the Covenant use batteries. They can’t be recharged so a new weapon needs to be picked up. Grenades are different too. Covenant have sticky nades which are sweet in multiplayer. Sucks when you get hit with one.
Life is 2 bars. Shields and your Life bar. Life bar requires med packs scattered around the maps. Shields just take time. In later Halo games, the life bar was removed. Except in ODST, where they just have a stamina bar that recharges and requires packs. The life and shield bars is a better way. More skill is required instead of just hiding then regen.
Overall, this is a fun game. Took about 7-9 hours and was a blast, unlike ODST. Only thing bad about this game is no online play and I can’t stand the vehicles. Recommend it for anyone looking for a fun game with a cool story.
